I feed them layer feed crumble from Tractor SupplyWhat are you feeding them? Maybe to much calcium, I know it can cause REALLY thick shells and thick membrane so maybe it is a link

I was told that were pure breedThose are not exactly a 'pure breed', they're a custom cross bred specifically for production... very similar to Golden Comets, Production Reds, or ISA Browns for example...
Many birds bred for production produce double yolkers... some will off and on or regularly their whole lives...
Double yolks halves the amount of eggs a bird will lay in their life as well, since each female hatches with a finite amount of eggs within her ovary... once depleted they are gone..
Don't feel bad. I was told the same thing by Southern States. I ordered Rhode Island Reds & got Red Sex Links, & I was too new to know the difference 'til I got to digging around & asking questions here on BYCI was told that were pure breed
