Is it normal?

I like your cool avatar, Cyn. I thought, "Oh cool, a new 'chick' " ....then I saw your name.

You're funny, Dave.

Honestly, though I'd feel like saving the birds from horrible conditions, I wouldn't. It'd be hard to walk away, but I would have to think of my own glowingly healthy flock at home and how much I care about them and leave the poor things to their filth. No telling what diseases or pests they are harboring. I may fuss out the owner some before I left, though.

I have trouble keeping the broilers clean. I slide the tractor to fresh grass daily, but they insist on laying in the mess. There are only 6 in an 6X8 hoop house, it isn't like they are over-crowded at 3 weeks. Their condition makes me feel bad, but I've done what I can to improve it.

Possibly, egg farm cast offs. What breed did the seller claim they are?
Got any pics?

They are supposed to be Delawares and they look like they are. I'll keep them quarantined and maybe wash them when the weather gets better. The hens look cleaner already just being in clean wood chips. The roo is another story, he is still dirty.
