from WI. Happy to hear that Daisy finally has a chick to mother....Hope she will eat better and gain a little weight, sounds like she is on the right track. I would keep her and the chick seperated for a while but with some type of fence that allows her tosee the other chickens (and vice versa). Hopefully some of the experienced folks will give you some input on how/when to introduce them so the chick will not get pecked/hurt.
The yogurt and honey is going over big! Daisy is chowing away while baby is asleep. She also went for bits of avocado and more egg. I think we're turning the corner!
Can anyone instruct me on how to get a photo from upload to this message?
Oh, the name "flying by the seat of my pants" was meant to refer to my experience with chickens, but I guess it suits my life as well!
we have had two different mommas brood only one chick, they do just fine untill they get older and then they seem to be a bit lonely. we also have a chrysanthamum in our flock along with daffodil and lilly!! how cool.
I keep my mammas and chicks in a small pen in the coop untill the chicks feather out and then turn them loose, this way everyone knows each other and the chicks kind of know the "rules" and seem to do better that way.
Good luck!
