Is it ok to feed your chicken's chicken?

I'm trying to go as green as I can and cut back on waste that goes to the transfer station. We had dinner the other night and one of the kids had a small piece of chicken left over. I scrapped all the "green" stuff together for the compost and shredded the chicken up to give to the chickens. My 14 year old dd freaked and said you can't feed them chicken! Well I did and they seemed to like it. I know I have read others have given them scrammbled eggs.

People feed their chickens chicken (and eggs) all the time. They are omnivores and love meat, and don't care what kind of meat it is.

LOL I threw away a chicken carcass this weekend. I know that there are folks here who have no qualms about giving their chickens chicken, but I just get a creepy feeling about it. I do however give mine boiled and grated eggs and beef or maybe a little pork...any other animal that's left over outside of chicken.

Mine like chicken, and frog.

chicken meat is good for them and it is all ready in most chicken feed all ready as animal by-products...

I don't do it and trust me, I am diligent about not wasting food scraps. If the chicken was of commercial battery stock, I'd say just find another source for that scrap chicken. Battery chickens are loaded up with hormones, etc, that you may not want to introduce into your flock. I do feed back washed, baked egg shells to my laying hens but I also refrain from feeding them their own eggs. I've had a few spoiled by my laying hens when they were laid in a precarious place some of the shell was damaged. I don't want to encourage that behavior nor give them a tast for them. I got that from an old timer so just passing along my 2 cents for what it's worth. What then do you do with perfectly good leftover meat? I boil down the carcass and strip off the meat to add to my homemade dog food. Happy pups and no waste!

My chickens love chicken! LOL

When we are butchering deer, they line up to pick the bones clean!

I just try not to give them salted food scraps. I barely use salt anyways but I do try and avoid that one....
