is it ok to let peafowl out from lockdown??

I got 7 peafowl around thanksgiving time.....so they have been penned up for close to 2 months....

I worry that once I open that door they might fly off never to be seen again...
the pen they are in is not large enough for 7 adult peafowl...right now they are 10-13 months old...

I do have 2 older peafowl that are free rangers and they visit the penned peas daily..
was wanting to be able to let the newbies hang with these two,,,

Peafowl are VERY social creatures, my guess is that they will meetup with the adult two and mingle with them with no worries. i recently put my 5 young peas from this springs hatch in with my pair of silver pied adults and they were just fine! actually the male was excited to have more to shake his tail at, because he did just that. started displaying around them all LOL they didnt know what the heck he wa doing. I would generally keep them locked up longer, but since you have the free rangers, you may be alright. I have turned young birds out in the past with other free rangers with minimal lockdown time, and they stayed.

I should add as a caveat, that we don't have any neighbors or inticements to leave within say 1/4 to 1/2 mile. I think this makes a huge difference.

My advise , just let a few out at first, they should stay with the other two. but leaving a few penned , they will want to be around the ones they were raised with.

If I were to let my 2009 hatch peacocks out now, my free ranging alpha male would chase them possibly them off our 5 acres. I could release my 2010 hatched males and he'd tolerate them. I say this because he's got the arch in his neck, is attacking the chrome bumper and fanning. Releasing new males for me is best done when there is no testosterone flowing. This is early for him to be displaying but we've not really had much winter here in South Texas.
