Is it ok to treat our 5 day old chicks for Coccidia with CORID? There are no instructions for an animal weighing less than 2.2lb. I'm very concerned.

I'm Judy Mauldin
we have 4 Buff Orpingtons and 1 Plymouth Barred Rock that are 5 days old We love them already. I'm hoping to get advice about treating them for Coccidia tonight. tonight
Welcome to BYC! :frow

Coccidia are not a problem unless an overgrowth is present then known as coccidiosis, rarely by 5 days old. More often in crowded conditions.

Are you seeing lethargy, not eating, or other concerns?

Always make sure bums are clear from pasty butt as a first thing to check at THIS age.

Are you currently giving any other supplement? What is their feed?

If you're seeing slowing right now.. I'd go Poultry nutri drench over Corid.. personal experience and adcive.

Hope your babies are thriving! :fl

For chickens, you mix the corid in the water, at a certain rate, and it works for all ages and sizes because big chickens drink more (so they get more medicine) and little chickens drink less (so they get less medicine.) The same ratio of medicine/water is right for all of them.

Unfortunately, I don't know the other details you will still need (whether the chicks actually need corid, and what the correct ratio of corid to water is.)
