Is it okay for my 5 week old ducklings to eat frogs?

Its funny how finicky they can be.
My ducks love to eat everything, except fermented feed.
My chickens on the other hand are very picky. They like their fermented feed and regular feed, but other than that they won't eat too many treats.
They will kill mice though.
Yesterday I found a nest of baby mice. My chickens killed a few, but the ducks ate them all.

I had to share that story here cause I thought about your ducks eating that snake. . I'm like seriously! Other Cayugas are eating SNAKES and you all won't touch a tiny mouse! :lau
I also give them watermelon for the first time the other day. . wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. I swear they thought I was trying to poison them. :gig

After following this thread from the beginning and noting the long term digestive distress caused by the supposed frog, I am beginning to wonder if the poor duck didn't eat a toad instead... Are you sure it was a frog? Frogs are not poisonous and should not have caused all this long term distress. People eat frogs! Toads on the other hand are poisonous and exude nasty stuff from their skin. Could it have been a toad that your duckling ate? They look a lot alike, but they are different... https://www.bing.com/videos/search?...F51DDB28E6384F186E0BF51DDB28E6384F1&FORM=VIRE

So true. I have lots of toads and the dogs spit them out and shake their heads. One dog started foaming. I'm pretty sure a duck wats them so fast they would not have this reaction.

When I first put my ducks outside I came home to find holes inh the duck house, found it strange. Then as I walk past the pool I see a toad on ramp in the water looking at me. My guess is that he was under ground, they dug him up and he got away. Picked the little boiler up and explained to him that he was not in a good place and moved him. I have caught a couple toads and frogs and removed them. My yard is their favorite place to be.

One night we were inside and I noticed my golden who is a perfected toad spitter staring and dancing by the kitchen. I go look and there is a huge toad. How he got in im not sure, but he looked quite comfortable.

I get way more toads around here then frogs. My dog has gotten a hold of a few too. He had the foamy mouth too. I haven't seen my ducks and chickens eat a toad yet. They have pecked at them, but then they leave them alone.
I have read that toads secrete a foul tasting substance and thats why animals usually leave them alone.
When my cat first started mouse hunting he brought a really large toad into my kitchen which was dark at the time. My reaction was along the lines of a horror movie. He didn't bring me anymore toads after that, lol.:lau

Just came to post that 7 years later... I just saw my Cayuga scarf down a frog she found in the duck pool and I was wondering if it was okay for her to do so. I've never seen her move so fast! And of course it was hilarious to watch her try to swallow it whole (she did eventually, and drank a ton of water to wash it down).
