Is It Okay To Store Their Feed In The Run?

Run is almost complete. I purchased large galvanized cans with lids to store the feed. My plan was to store the barrels of feed in my shed, next to the run. But a few people said that predators will chew/claw/dig into my shed to get to the grain. Even if the feed is secure in the barrels, I don't want anything wrecking my brand new shed.

So I was wondering if there's any reason not to just put the barrels right in the run? The run is EXTREMELY predator resistant with 1/2 hardware cloth on all sides including the floor and ceiling, and has corrugated roofing over that. Would the run be an okay place to keep the barrels? I kept cracked corn in a barrel like that on my deck all winter (to feed wild birds) and it's still dry and fine.

What do you guys think? Shed or Run & why?

I would vote shed.
I have a can of scratch outside of my run area in case a rocoon does show up. I figure he will go after the easy food and also, if something does get into the can of scratch, I'll know it's time to set up traps.

I don't think anything will claw it's way into your shed to get at the food....it would be more inclined to get into the hen house after the chickens....shed or run...in the run if the chickens have a chance to roost on top of it they will poop on it. so I vote the shed also, unless they can't fly on top of it in the run.

I keep mine in the shed...even though one black bear has been euthanized and another caught and relocated this year for breaking into coops!

i wouldnt put it in the run but thats my personal opinion.

shed sounds fine, your container sounds fine.. does your lid snap on or can yo put a weight on it? right now im using rubbermaid bins and nothing has gotten into it--- but i havent "chickened" through a cold season here yet( i see you are in nh im in ny-- you know what rodents like to do in the winter!)
