Then I have to ask again who/what is going to care for this chick if it hatches? It will need a mother hen or it will have to be brooded with a light to keep it warm and a box or dog crate or something for a safe location, shavings for bedding, food and water. It will have no siblings for company/warmth and your other chickens will not care for it and without a mom to defend it, may even kill it. At any rate, if your plan is to dump it at a day old into the pen with the older flock, that is almost certainly a death sentence for a hatchling.

That wont work. A hen has to be sitting on eggs with the intent to hatch for it to bond to a chick.

That will only work if she has actually gone broody by that time, and since they are young and just at the point of lay, you really can't count on that happening by then... Maybe a better idea would be to just wait until you have a broody (it will happen eventually) THEN go buy a fertile egg (or maybe even 2 or 3) and have that broody hatch some chicks for you, which she will then care for as her own.

Sweetie (I'm a mum of 3 boys so sorry that is just what comes out!) just because your hens are laying (if they do before it hatches - how old are they?) they will only accpt an egg if they are broody. Are you really a boy or a troll stirring us up?

I think this young man really wants a baby chick, but has not had chickens long enough to really understand how all that has to work. The chances of him being successful with underwear hatching is not really very good but it would be sad if by some chance he succeeded and the chick then lost because of ignorance/lack of information about the care a hatchling needs to survive after hatching. As most of us here know, even if he successfully hatched and brooded this single chick to the point it was actually ready to join the flock it would have a hard time being accepted into a flock a full 6 months older, because chickens can be quite mean and are not readily accepting of new members, unless born to present members within the flock. As a single bird, it would be picked on pretty badly. At Lumpy, you are in the right place, as everyone here loves baby chicks and have the information you need to succeed in raising them. However, I would be sad if you put a lot of energy into producing a chick that would have a very hard time in life due to lack of socialization with siblings and other chickens because it has to be isolated for it's own safety for most likely until it is at least 6 mos old, at which time it would be difficult for it to even comprehend that it is supposed to be a chicken. That being said, I find your grandmotherly qualities somewhat endearing and hope you continue what to all of us here is a rewarding endeavour, keeping and raising poultry. Wishing you the best that life can bring and if you direct the same persistence and energy you are showing toward this hatching project (but do a little research before starting it) you will be bound to succeed!
