Is it possible to save this egg?

So, are you thinking Generac now? You’re parents probably already told you to DO IT! Having solar panels sounds nice. We’ve seen more of them popping up on homes in this part of Ohio.

I’m thinking back to when you first shared that shocking photo of your Miracle with us. Shes a special little pullet and growing into a beautiful hen. After all you’ve been through with her troubling beginning, I’m not surprised that she’s so attached to you and such a cuddly chicken! It sounds like mama chicken is a broody beast!

I absolutely love my solar panels and I do intend to get batteries so probably won't go with Generac unfortunately. I do really like the Generac system. It seems silly to do that when I have panels on my roof already. All I need is storage. My panels are about saving electric because in Florida you will die without AC. I needed lower bills. I will not love the solar panels when it's time to put on a new roof. That is a major hassle.

Miracle is my favorite pullet I believe. That save was incredible. I thought she would die in the egg. The crack was serious. I remember running to tractor supply in a panic to get another incubator since I had my neighbors eggs in my main incubator. She sat alone in that egg without the broody for a couple hours when I was at TS and then trying to setup the incubator. Then it got way too hot. Life was stacked against her and she overcame all obstacles. I remember trying to melt the candle over the plastic wrap and seal her in the egg. It was madness and I was really scared a healthy chick would die. Unbelievable save. That chicken has more value than either of her breed mixes. She is my baby.

Good luck with your solar panels. Hopefully you’ll have them in working order very soon. Sounds like that’ll cut your energy cost a lot. A good investment for that Florida heat.

Her name really does fit her perfectly. You must have felt incredible hearing that first peep! (I might’ve cried! ) You went above and beyond, and wouldn’t give up on a chick who was fighting to live. She will always be very special to you. I have a few who are extra special… chicks that really shouldn’t have survived. Like you, I didn’t give up on them, because they wouldn’t give up. Those are the ones who develop a special bond with us that will last their entire lifetime.

Miracle at 24 weeks. She still has that white spot on the back of her head. She's very friendly. I'm not sure if she's laying or not yet. Her older sisters didn't start laying til 24 weeks and some are just starting to lay now.

What an amazing story! I saved your video, just in case. My hen is sitting on a clutch right now, day 15 - my first hatch... I'm just trying to gain what knowledge I can, this whole thread was enlightening. Thanks for sharing it.

Aww it is so much fun to watch mother hen raise her babies. My little Miracle is the sweetest hen. I was so shocked that my chicks the broody raised turned out so sweet. I expected less friendly chickens. I couldn't find Miracle a few nights ago when I put them all in the coop. I was panicking so bad. She was in the nest box turns out. I love love love love Miracle so much. Don't be afraid if you have a cracked egg. My baby is proof they can be saved. I hope everything goes smoothly for your hen and chicks.

Miracle is 9 months old. Caught her laying an egg. I've marked it and I'm going to see if it's fertile and if it will hatch.
