I found one egg in a nest earlier. The problem is that none of the hens was singing the usual song. Is it possible. From the window now i just another one sitting on the nest.

We have gotten a total of 11 eggs from our girls who just started laying last week. I have only heard the egg song once and it was before the egg was laid, I know becouse as soon as i heard it I checked the nest box and no chicken and no egg. checked back in 15 mins and there was an egg. Go figure!

they dont all sing the egg song. and my BO is fairly quiet throughout the egg laying process which for her takes a very long time sometimes (hours). I guess every bird and breed is different

Well, you found an egg; therefore, it is possible.

Well i just gave them their dinner, and i found two more eggs. Today they were really quiet. A few days ago, all the area found out that they were laying eggs. Another issue but i think this is probably breed related is the egg size. I got four of the same breed and they lay really small eggs. The other parameter is that they started laying recently.

I'm also new with hens, & I only have 1 laying now, but she started with small eggs & they seem to be getting larger, as she grows.

Back when I had a large flock, my hens seemed to sing less when the weather was very hot. The Silkies acted like laying an egg was a secret during the heat of late summer and were very, very quiet.

I have one black bantam that NEVER SHUTS UP and hardly lays any eggs. The other chooks are silent. I never hear them lay. One RIR, I have picked up her eggs and they were still warm, but never heard a thing. She just tucks the newspaper under her wing, grabs a cup of coffee and heads for her stall.
