Ahh! Don’t talk about that!!Without anesthesia??! That’s horrible! I don’t think I could do that. He hasn’t crowed yet, but I’m pretty sure I’ve heard him trying and failing.

Great, thanks! Yes, having a vet nearby should definitely be helpful.I definitely will. I am so lucky to have an exotics vet nearby (I have no idea how chickeNs somehow became “exotics” just because we’re in an urban area), so hopefully they’ll be able to give some good advice.
Only if they've started before hand, like I explained earlier. It's a habit for them, so if found it when they're still pretty much babies, they never have the urge or habitBut don’t they still crow after that?

Yeah good luck!Thank you!
Depending on how you prepare the bird (head covered, maybe) and how calm he is, he might be totally fine with it. I've seen videos of people performing bumblefoot and crop surgeries on birds without anesthesia, and the bird has been pretty darn chill with it.Without anesthesia??! That’s horrible! Agree 100%Caponizing your cockerel won't make him quiet. I would send him back, better he has a short great life with a quick end.
Haha I don’t know about cute... he sounded like a strangled moped...Depending on how you prepare the bird (head covered, maybe) and how calm he is, he might be totally fine with it. It's a different procedure, though, of course, and it likely depends on the bird, but chickens seem to have a pretty high pain tolerance.
(Also, the first few tries at crowing are so cute).
