Is it safe for chickens to consume flies?

I’ve seen many eat a spider in the past and they turned out ok so I was wondering about flies. I always see them flying around on a warm sunny day so I was wondering if it would be ok for a chicken to consume one while free ranging. Are there any diseases they might get from eating a fly?

Thanks in advance,

It’s not like you can stop them from eating a fly! Chickens will go through animal poop to find tasty bits...:sick and that’s a landing spot for flies.

My chickens have eaten many things, including a baby bird that fell out of its nest. Chickens are omnivores, and generally pretty good at not eating things that would make them sick.

I really hope flies don’t cause a problem for my chicken. It is a two week old Polish. I think it’s a girl. And she chases the flyswatter. She just knows there’s yummy treats on there, after she hears the smack.
