Is it safe for my chickens to be in the rain?

I usually contain my chickens in their roofed run when it rains, and they haven't gotten wet in the year I had them. Today I didn't expect it to rain, and they were standing out in the rain. Is this bad for them? Should I be worried? Right now it's 48 degrees and raining

That shouldn't kill them, but I like to give them the option to get inside or go out in the rain. Mine will stay out in light rain, but they come in when it gets heavy. It's when it gets below freezing that being wet can be dangerous.

This is basically what I do. Just give them access to shelter and let them decide (and maybe try and dry them off if it's cold and they manage to get too wet while I'm away).
