Is it safe for my chickens to eat this?

I feel silly even thinking this, but I *hate* wasting anything. I have some hard, crunchy type dog food that my husband bought the dogs and it's not "their" kind

and they won't touch it. So now I have a big huge bag of it. Would it be safe to throw out to the chickens as a treat now and then?

I have chickens free-ranging and when they see me feeding the dogs they come running. I throw just a handful out to them and they're happy. So far they haven't started barking!

I've resorted to broken up dog biscuits for treats when I'm out. They love it, and I haven't noticed any ill effects. The extra protein might be good for them!
