Is it safe to use fresh pine boughs in my turkey's coop?

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if it's safe to use fresh pine boughs in my turkey's coop? Halo is a pet 7 month old BBW and loves pine boughs in his run, but with our extremely cold and snowy winters, would it be safe to put some in his coop? His coop is cleaned twice daily and has fresh large flake pine shavings and good quality straw for when it will get brutally cold. (-20F is very common) The coop is equipped with a large roost box as well. 12' long 5' wide and 6' tall. I'm just worried they will make him sick. Thanks so much for any advice. Have a great day.

I would not put them in the coop or the run. A broad breasted turkey is going to develop walking problems soon enough without adding obstacles in its path.

I know that you think that -20°F is extremely cold. It isn't to a turkey that is acclimated to the weather and is not getting supplemental heat. Their feathers insulate their bodies very well.

My turkeys will seek shade on sunny days even when it is colder than -20°F.

Personally I would not keep turkeys in a building that is only 5' wide.

He loves to lay on them. He has all summer out in the run. It's just a few of them, layed out flat and neat and switched out daily. I was just wondering if it's safe in the coop in a corner area. Thanks for your reply.

I'm not using the boughs for warmth. He seems to enjoy them outside, so I wanted to know if it's safe inside. -20 is the normal temperature. We get almost 300 inches of snow and -35 is a thing here. I was asking if they're safe, not if the square footage is enough for a turkey. I do appreciate your thoughts though.
