I'm in MD too!
It has been cold here lately, but i have 8 day olds in the brooder now lol. I,personally, don't think that there is a "bad time" of season to hatch, as long as they either come in the house for brooding or have a very warm section in the coop to use as a brooder.

And think, by the time spring rolls around, any hens that hatch will be starting to lay!!
I say go for it!

I have hens sitting on eggs right now---I just let them sit. My DH built great brooder pens with built in heat lamps for the chicks, so when they hatch out, I just switch them over to those. They work great in our barn, even with the cold weather.

Hey Momof four, It's nice your hubby wants to make babies as warm and comfy as possible, but just wanted to make sure you knew; chickens have babies all year roound and they are well-equipt to raise them as well. They'd be warm and cozy under her too
