I'm in MD too!
It has been cold here lately, but i have 8 day olds in the brooder now lol. I,personally, don't think that there is a "bad time" of season to hatch, as long as they either come in the house for brooding or have a very warm section in the coop to use as a brooder.

And think, by the time spring rolls around, any hens that hatch will be starting to lay!!
I say go for it!

I have hens sitting on eggs right now---I just let them sit. My DH built great brooder pens with built in heat lamps for the chicks, so when they hatch out, I just switch them over to those. They work great in our barn, even with the cold weather.

It's nice to hear I have some neighbors out there.

Hey Momof four, It's nice your hubby wants to make babies as warm and comfy as possible, but just wanted to make sure you knew; chickens have babies all year roound and they are well-equipt to raise them as well. They'd be warm and cozy under her too:)
