Is Janet a Janet and Fiona a Fiona... Or a James & Finn?

And a few photos of my little bantam Charlotte because she enjoys the attention. Believe a little lady ❤️
She has beautiful coloring! I'm also believing she is a pullet.

If you wouldn't mind me asking, do you have any chicks/chickens in particular you got that you aren't sure the breed of? I see some really familiar ones, so I might be able to help out!

LOL! Well, all of them technically. These are my first chickens.. Janet, Henrietta, and Sadie all have Furry feet which is why I think at least a brahma mix.

I did get 2 others from Rural King as Easter Eggers because I'm hoping for some colored eggs. Read they are also friendlier, one is definitely as she loves to sit near me and be petted 💕

Several breeds have feathered feet, not only Brahmas. Actually, now that I think of it, I'm pretty sure Brahmas usually have boots instead of just feathered legs.

I found an article on a different website that shows 12 breeds with feathered legs!

This is helpful, thank you! Always learning something new. I'm eyeing a few breeds I want to get in the spring but for now our focus is finishing our coop in next couple weeks (and of course figuring how who's a she)

You're welcome! If you need anymore help about breeds, you can ask me, no worries! I'm definitely not an expert, but I may know a thing or two. :)

Brahmas also have pea combs, and I'm pretty sure Janet has 1 copy of the pea comb gene. So that makes it more likely that she has some Brahma ancestry.

Sadie has a rose comb, and Henrietta has either a rose or a walnut comb. So they each have at least one parent with a rose or walnut comb.

(Gentically, walnut comb is rose + pea. Single comb is not-rose and not-pea and not-duplex. When both parents have single combs, so do all their chicks. But parents with other comb types are sometimes able to produce chicks with single combs too.)

Man, I should of paid more attention in biology class.
This is interesting though, and appreciate you sharing. I knew Sadies comb looked different (and Henrietta with the smooth comb) but knowing they were mixes anyways didn't put much thought into trying to figure them out.
Wonder if they have a DNA chicken test kit like they do dogs and cats?
