I am new to this board, but have been lurking the past couple of moths to research before getting my chicks. I thought I found out all I needed to know. I bought my chicks a couple of days ago. I bought purina start and grow. After more reading I heard it is recommended to start on a medicated feed. Should I buy something else? I'd hate to start on the wrong foot.

When i got ducks,...I asked about medicated feed that I was feeding my chicks, the opinion was to use medicated with chicks non medicated with ducks. So I had to separate them which was a pain. I ended up having an impossible time getting the medicated feed too, the local feed and grain wasn't overly enthused with keeping it in stock because the chicks they sold were immunized. So I started using non medicated and well to be honest I never went back. I don't know if I am lucky,..or if sometimes the norms are just plain overkill. My husbands opinions given with alot of snickers is most that I think is necessary is simply overkill.

You are doing Great, keep on Purena medicated till they are 16 weeks old and the switch to layna crumbles, plus don't forget to get some grits for the chicks.
