Is Meyer Hatchery very good?

I ordered 24, plus the Meal Maker. All were in perfect health, lively and playful. They are almost two months old, now. I'll post some pics from my computer after kids go to bed.

Thank you! :)
Hey- FYI- Meyer's 2013 catalog is available as a pdf download on their site now

Also... I think my female EE from them is now a male...
Oops, I hope that that is okay that she might be a he. :/

If she's a he then I'll have to wait and hope they pass the blue/green egg gene to their offspring. I am anxious for those pretty colored eggs! With two ee males I have a good chance of getting half ee chicks in the future (I also have a sussex male). I hope they're well behaved as they get older- so far so good.

Our plan is probably going to change, we might be receiving 4, 2 or 3 year old hens. :) :/ :(
But since we are not sure, has anyone else gotten chicks from Meyer? :)

I ordered from Meyer for the August 6th hatch. I got 1 white cochin, 2 ee, 2 buff orphingtons, 1 silver grey dorking, 1 blue hamburg, 1 blue andulusian, 1 light brahma, and 2 buff brahmas, and they sent an extra buff orphington as the meal maker. One of my ee chicks passed away on the 3rd day, and my dorking passed after a week. My light brahma looks like she's laced, she's very pretty, but not the right color, and my buff brahma roo barely has any feathers on his legs. I love them as they are pets, but they are definately not to standard. I will probably order from them again for pets, but if I want to start a project with good quality birds, I would definately order from another member of byc.

I had a pretty bad experience with Meyer. You can read about it here. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...rder-1st-update-pics-page-3-more-drama-page-4

That said, I appreciate the wide variety of breeds they carry and the fact that most everything can be ordered sexed. They have a small minimum order and their catalog is very user-friendly. My birds are all very healthy, though none are show-quality by any stretch of the imagination.

If you are ordering in the spring I might suggest it. But don't order in the fall/winter. I received my 19 little ones I ordered Tuesday and when I opened the box 5 had passed away and 5 more looked very weak. By this morning 11 have died. I called meyer to have them send me more per their "100% live guarantee" but they told me I would have to order 4 more to bring it to 15 chicks in order for them to send me more. They ended up just refunding me the money. That's not what I wanted though... I ordered chicks so I could have "chicks" and that "guarantee" should say a minimum replacement instead of what it says. This is the first....and last time I will oreder from them. The chicks were a present for my kids for christmas and now im scrabling to find a local person with chicks. Im not happy to say the least!

Another change, we are not getting those hens so we decided that it would just be easier to get chicks from our feed store that come from Privett Hatchery. Our original one's came from there so we know they are pretty good. :)

I'm sorry to hear so many folks have had problems with Meyer. In early November, I ordered three bantam Welsummers, with a meal maker that ended up being a barred rock pullet, and they came during a hard cold snap -- below freezing. All thrived. This is my second order. The first order -- 25 mixed standard chicks -- arrived during a heat wave. All thrived.

Hi Jules! I was wondering how the welsummers were doing:).
7 out of 7 of my Meyer chicks are now 4 months old and I've not had one problem with them. In fact I called them with questions about getting eggs in the spring and mentioned my extra roosters (4 instead of 2) and they gave me a nice credit toward my next order, I thought that was very nice.
