Is Monia Growing? *Pics*

I am going to give you this link but want you to know it is very upsetting AND graffic,

OMG! That is so horrible! I had no idea this went on. Now I am definetly never buying any babies from a hatchery again. This is so sad, I cant believe they are treated like this..

From what I've seen, Metzers is a good hatchery. They don't do chickens, so they don't have the issue with culling Roos like that. They are very open about how they keep and raise birds. There are other duck hatcheries that are also very good to their birds.

Sorry for your loss. She was an adorable ducky. It's entirely possible that there wasn't anything obviously wrong with her when they shipped her to you. That's the problem with shipping day olds, sometimes it takes longer for some problems to manifest. But, from what I've seen and heard from other people, their birds are pretty healthy. John Metzer has an account here, perhaps you can PM him. He often goes out of his way to make people happy.

I completely agree with this. I've been very happy with Metzers and I would never buy chickens from a hatchery. I don't think they are the same as the huge chick hatcheries.

To be fair, it states on Metzer's website that they only will refund or replace if the bird dies within the first 24 hours. It's still hard to lose the little guys, though.

"Refunds, Losses, & Insurance

Rarely do we have a problem with losses in a shipment. In addition, we usually provide a few extra birds in case there are losses during shipping. So always count the live birds, not just the dead birds as you may still have the number you ordered if there are only a few losses. However, if you do have more losses in your shipment than extras, please call us immediately so we are aware of the problem. We will cover any losses for the first 24 hours you have the birds so we will ask you to phone back after that 24 hour period. At that point we will do whichever you prefer - refund your money or replace the birds."

Thank you, we miss her so much. I think I may message him.

I know they do not insure or refund after 24hrs, I knew that when I ordered them. I just thought I should let them know what happened with my duckling. I feel like this whole 'hatchery experience' is my last, I would feel more comfortable buying my birds from breeders who put a great amount of time and effort into each hatchling. Especially after watching that video :(

Agreed. I'm still thinking about that video this morning. Ugh.
So sorry to hear about your little duckie. :(

I agree 100% that not all hatcheries do this, well maybe i can't say that because I really don't know for fact, I just know when this was first brought up on BYC I swore I would never buy from one. I have heard great things about Metzers and would not want to lump them into this in anyway, I think hatcheries in general need a big over haul on how they hatch and treat their chicks, look what happened here in NC with the Turkeys. So it's still happening.

Does anyone know how to find John Metzer's BYC profile? I would like to write to him, but I cant seem to find him lol

I just watched that video.... I was crying so hard, I had to turn it off... It was horrible! I will never order from a hachery!

Dolly, im soooo sorry you lost her! Thats so sad!

To get his BYC profile, hhmm. One second! Brb
