They're a late laying breed though aren't they?
Handsome young man. Ahh now I want Australorps.
I wish I could keep him. But until I get out the ‘burbs, no roosters for me. I’m close to convincing my wife country living is better than the suburbs.

I dont think they're that late. Mine are 16 weeks and I think are getting ready to lay. Theyve been pushing around the bedding in the nesting boxes and making some egg song noises. They're a late laying breed though aren't they?

I have a black Australorp pullet and cockerel born Feb 25th, this is my cockerel on June 20th, second pic is on April 24th. He was supposed to be a pulletHi! New member and new chicken owner. My 2 Australorps will be 7 weeks tomorrow. We purchased them both from a local farm. Lucy (or Lou) has the beginnings of a red comb and a red waddle. I read that cockerels grow theirs early. For comparison, our other Australorp Lily, who is the same age, has a yellow comb and no waddle yet. Also, their tails are looking different. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you!![]()

Any further development on this topic? Do you have a better idea of whether your Australorp is a roo or hen? We're in the same boat here at almost 7 weeks. Many thanks.Hi!
