I have 2 9 week old red speckled Sussex chicks. One of them was smaller then the other since we got them but only slightly. Then at 2 weeks old the small one got sick. We thought we were going to lose her. Good news is we managed to bring her back to full health. She’s now happy & healthy but smaller then her sister we got at the same time. I’m wondering if she might be a bantam. I know that the Sussex breed is hard to find bantam versions of. Did I get lucky by mistake? Do I need any extra care for her as she gets older if she is a bantam? Or is she just stunted as a result of being sick at such a young age? She was really sick for 3 days. Hardly ate or drank. Gave her some save a chick & fed her scrambled eggs for energy. We call her Lucky since she survived. She is the one in the picture on the left. Her sister is on the right. Both are same age. Sister Nessie didn’t want to stand in my husband hand.
