Is my Americauna hen Elsa really a rooster? She is crowing!!

Why wouldn't You? They're no different than non fertilized gleggs as long as you refrigerate them when you collect them daily
I’m such a newbie. I guess I need to learn more about this. So if they are fertilized you have to refrigerate right away?

Just don’t look up “How to tell a fertilized egg from ones that aren’t” and you’ll never know the difference. There is no rush to get them in the fridge, just get the eggs when you normally would.

Isn’t 8 weeks a little young to start crowing? I’m genuinely curious. I️ have 2 Roos that are 7 weeks old and they don’t look nearly that grown up. Maybe it’s just the cheeks 😂 or maybe mine aren’t Roos after all... 🤔

The embryo only develops if the egg is incubated, either under a broody hen, or in an incubator, which is at about 100F and the right humidity. No growth will occur otherwise, and nothing is obvious even then for at least a couple of days.
So, anyone with a rooster will have fertile eggs, and it's not a problem at all.

Hello all,
I’m a newbie to raising chickens. We purchased all hens, but recently my 8 week old Americauna has started crowing like a rooster. HELP!!!! Is this normal or did I end up with a rooster? She is definitely the more dominant/Motherly hen. We weren’t planning on having a rooster, so I’m praying this is normal hen behavior. This post is not letting me add the video. I will try to add it to the comments
Sorry I think Elsa is a mister

Some individuals will crow earlier than others, and some breeds mature faster. My Fayoumi cockerel started crowing at 28 days of age, and it was cute!

Wow that’s pretty impressive! I️ have Golden Laced Wyandotte’s. I’ll try to find a pic.

These are pics from 2 weeks ago. I️ can get newer ones if needed.

I am so sorry. She looks like a he to me. We just went through the exact same scenario. We had to rehome our sweet 10 week old americauna whom we were certain was a hen until she started crowing. Good luck.

Hi, I have just recently had the same problem. My black ameracauna , who I thought would be my prized blue egg layer just started crowing! She’s / he’s almost 16 weeks old. The difference is mine has that classic rooster tail. Yours tail looks short more like a female. The roosters usually get these longer streamer feathers from their tail. I am new to chickens as well and just recently found this out. But i have read that some females will crow at a young age so I’d hold out a little longer before getting rid of it. That’s a beautiful chicken.
