We got this Ancuna for a breeder just over a month ago. They said she was a hen, but she has started crowing in the morning and strutting. She also has a pronounced comb. She's around 4.5 months old. Is she a rooster??

Is the Ancona in your first picture, the same bird as the one in your second picture? The one in the first picture looks like a cockerel. The Ancona in the second picture looks like a pullet. If your bird is really crowing (not just hen singing), then you have a cockerel. Hens do crow on rare occasion, but those that do are almost always over 2 years old, and have taken over the role of the rooster in a roosterless flock.

Thanks! Here's a picture of their back feathers

From this picture I would say a pullet. I just raised one that had me guessing right until she lay eggs. Oh my goodness, what a rollercoaster and now her comb is bigger than my roosters, but I saw her laying, literally and so I know for a fact is a girl.

Thanks for the feedback! It is the same Ancuna in both pictures. I'll keep listening in the morning to see if there's more crowing. We did have a bantam that turned out to be a rooster so maybe she's learned something from him. It's so hard to know until they lay eggs!
