Is my BO a hen or a roo?

"Mama" was purchased from a feed store as a pullet and she is about 20 weeks old. My moms BO's do not have the dark red crest. Is mama a roo or is this common for this breed?

I am going to say rooster. I see curving tail feathers and big thick legs. The stance also says rooster.

Yes she (or he) does have very thick legs. We got 4 and my mom kept 3, her 3 look different from mine in that they have pale pick small crest.

Well, if it's a Roo it should crow any day now... looks like a Roo to me... what about taking "him" over to visit your mom's three.. and see if he does what roosters do??

Looks like a cockeral to me, especially with the long legs and tall stance.

I'm not convinced this one is a rooster. Could you post some closer pics of the chickens saddle (feathers on back near tail) and hackle (feathers at base of neck) feathers, please.

I agree it looks like a cockeral, at 20 weeks he's pretty slow maturing, most have more obvious signs by now.
Hens will get a comb like that as they mature, it's a sign of sexual maturity/fertility, that's when you start looking for eggs.

Hummm...
