I bought sexed pullets from the feedstore. They are all 3.5 weeks old (hatched feb 22). Of the 5 australorps, one has a noticeably bigger comb than the 4 others and has visible tiny wattles, hot pink. S/he is also more adventurous and gragarious than the hatchmates. Is this a roo or can development differ in chicks of the same age? Some are bigger and some smaller. this is one of the medium ones.

Here s/he is in the center with the white breast...

In the "Jersey Giant world" he would definitely be a roo and that is my call on it but I have been wrong before. Only time will tell for you unfortunately but if its any consolation it is still better then calling the sex on turkeys. I love the australops but they cause a lot of problems when you go to buy "pure breed" jersey giants in this area. I have almost become an expert on looking at their faces and telling what they are!

Looks roo to me but 2 years ago I bought 4 BR chicks- at the same age as yours one's comb and wattles were much more developed/colored than the others. I was positive it was a rooster. Turns out she was not. I was surprised at the difference in development speed between chicks of the same age/breed.

So, if only time will tell, how much time will it take? I am curious because I have a similar situation with my SLWs looking very different. How old are they when you can tell for sure?

(stupid newbie question, I know)

Exact same experience here...more than once actually. Just like anything else they will develop at different rates, and until you know for sure, u won't know for sure.
