Hi, I have a black copper maran hen who started laying around the 16th April. She laid a beautiful brown egg every day, with a rest 1 day a week. However, at one point, 3 of my hens, including her, all laid an egg with no shell, just the membrane, on the same day. I then found 3 incredibly shrunken and wrinkled egg shells, just a thin papery bit of shell. 2 hens recovered fine and carried on laying as normal, but my black copper maran does not seem to be recovering. She hasn't laid a normal egg in about 2 weeks, but here is a picture off the internet to show what they looked like.
These are some of her eggs she has been laying recently. She normally holds it for 2 days then lays 2 funny eggs. These were both today.
This one cracked as soon as I picked it up (weak shell) it is a lighter egg than usual and has speckles that slowly become darker as you get to the top of the egg.
This one was found outside in the middle of the run, in the dirt. It has a white layer around it, making it pinkish, but the part that was on the wet floor was brown.
Yesterday, we got an egg like the one above, with a white layer, but not on the top of the egg. There was a line between pink and brown. It had an unusually thick membrane and a thin flaking shell. When I rubbed my hand along it, a small piece of shell flaked off and I could see the membrane. The other egg that day was a normal colour and size, but it had stretch marks that went down into a lower but of shell. I don't know if I explained that very well. It was a two leveled egg if that makes any sense.
We have been having this for about 2 weeks, and it doesn't seem like just a young hen not understanding her eggs. She had a very regular egg schedule before this, but something went wrong somewhere.
I don't know if this is related, I posted it somewhere else a while ago, but she has a small white lump, now going slightly pink, just above her beak. I don't have any pictures of her, but someone on here put a picture of exactly the same thing. I'll try and find it and put a link to that thread so you can see the picture.
