Is my dog a problem to the chickens?

One of my dogs also loves charging the run fence. I've been working on the Leave It command with her and she has shown some improvement but it's something I have to keep working with her on, because she loves chasing anything that moves (even grabbed a wind blown leaf and ate it in mid air). I don't know much training you've done with your dog, but Leave It is definitely something you want to enforce between dog and chickens.

Has he tried to kill them? If so, then Yes! Dogs can be a major predator. I have a bird dog that would kill them , therefore I only free range when she is kept in the house. My run is predator proof so they are safe and sound when she is out. Good luck!!!
No he hasn't tried to kill them; but when they are in the coop he will run up to it and the birds will get scared. He just be playing running around trying to play. But is that good or bad?

As others have stated, that is bad for the birds for a variety of reasons. Given the opportunity it could escalate to catching and killing. Obedience training would be a great help here.

BAD. He isn't trying to play. He is chasing them due to his prey drive and given the chance he WILL catch and kill them.

Keep him away, teach a solid leave it, recall and impulse control. An ecollar may help if he gets super keyed up and doesn't listen, but you must get a good quality one and use it correctly.

Chickens get spooked easily. Hopefully, your dog will learn to avoid them....Otherwise you may want to keep your coop/run where your curious canine can't get to......
