Day 28, I think it is a pekin duck given to me by someone at work. Is this circle on top of the egg an external pip? No noise or movement yet, getting a bit worried!

I'm going to see if I can contact a few that are experienced with hatching. Muscovy do it for me.

Did you candle to see where the air cell is? and also that will show you if the duckling is pushing on the membrane.

Can you take this egg on a dark room and shine a light in to the air cell and get a clear picture?

That does not really look like a pip but more like it got hit with something.

Do you have others that are hatched in there that could have banged the egg around ?
I think I see a little hole inside the membrane but hard to tell with pictures
If baby did make his own pip then he will probably hatch himself
But it does take extra time as thry skip the air cell time frame
So it will be 48-72 hours from the pip
Be patient and leave baby be

Hello!

Looks like a pip to me… usually the first pip is the shape of a diamond or circular crack or hole—that is, for mine at least. I’m not too experienced with hatching ducklings, I’ve only done it once, however I think that the hatching process is very similar to chicks’. It could be that the egg’s air cell was in the wrong end, or that the duckling is malpositioned with its head in the pointy end (most likely). It will probably be just fine. I’ve had a few chicks that have pipped on the wrong end and they all ended up being completely fine and normal. :)
