Is my duck suffering from botulism ?

Why is she wet?

No she is not wet. The feathers dried like that because of all the food spilled when injecting in syringe. We tried cleaning her, but it still the same. And it's very difficult to clean her, because of her paralysis.

Being wet is a problem? Should we keep her warm all the time? I user to cover her with wet clothes so she would feel good with water.

Almost all sick birds are too cold, so keeping her covered with wet towels is not advisable. Touch the area under her wings and let us know if she feels cool, warm, or hot.

Most sick birds do best in a room or cage that's at least 27 degrees c.

I don't believe onions are good to feed ducks. And she really needs other food like a formulated feed for poultry. She may be suffering from being nutrient deprived.

Does nutrition deficiency causes paralysis too?? She eats all vegetables like cucumber Carrot and fruits. I'll try to buy proper poultry feed. Do you suggest any specific feed for ducks?

If you can get food especially for ducklings then get that. But if duckling feed isn't available and or your have other poultry then get chicken feed. And some really good poultry vitamins. The poultry feed needs to be starter grower or all flock, not layer since that is too much calcium for duckling and non laying birds.

If she is malnourished I'd say it could be possible to see paralysis. Do you keep your duckling in a pen outside? or do they have free range around a yard or land? she very well could have eaten something that was toxic plants can be toxic so always best to research if plants etc are safe to feed poultry before feeding it to them.

For future reference, the Cephalexin dose is 125 mg/kg twice a day orally.

There are some things you could try, but not knowing what you have available makes it hard to suggest them.

If she were mine I would start by getting her warm, then I would give her subcutaneous fluids (lactated ringers solution under skin). Since you have a friend that's a medic, maybe they could help with that.

I would also start the duck on vitamin b injections and injectable antibiotics. Talk to your medic friend and see if they can help you find something.

Once hydrated I would tube some sort of high protein food.
