Hi , I am new to having back yard chickens. We have a leghorn that began crowing. It only crows when it hears me outside of the coop in the morning and in the evening when I go to put the chickens up. It is about 13-15 weeks old.

Welcome to BYC!

It's impossible to tell by physical appearance from this angle, but if it's 15 weeks and it's crowing, it's a cockerel. Hens will occasionally crow but that only occurs in a bird that is at the very least of laying age and almost always a year or older.

For future breed/gender inquires or if you can get some better pics of this bird and would like second opinions, you can post over in the "What Breed or Gender is This?" forum.

Are you sure it wasn't crowing and it was just singing the eggs song or they do that when there is a predator and they will try to scare it away and warn the others

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. It's a very bad angle for judging gender, but if it's really crowing, it's almost certainly a cockerel. If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is lots of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.
