I am really new to raising chickens and a friend gave me 4 bantams from a "wild" flock that roams her farm. Three seem to be hens and one looks pretty much like a roo compared to them as he/she is geting a red comb and they aren't yet. My friend says you never can tell and just because he/she is getting a comb it's not a certainty until you hear the crow. It's true all my other girls have red combs, both the full size and bantams. Also, I saw another from the same hatching and it is much more "roosterish" having a very large comb already and much much larger and longer tail feathers.

Any help would be appreciated and if anyone can tell me an approximate age that would be great too!

Then new crew

he. look at his pointy saddle feathers and the beginnings of the sickle feathers in his tail.

I beg to differ with your friend. That boy has some very male feathers and there is zero chance he's a girl whether he crows today or next year sometime.
