Is my Potbelly sick or just not feeling the weather?

He seems to be not as mad at me but he's still coughing. I'm going to get some wormer and worm all three in case he might have lungworms. Do you have a good wormer that you could reccomend for all types of worms. I have Wazene but it doesn't cover many kinds of worms.

I didn't read the whole thread, but are you sure he doesn't have pneumonia or another respiratory infection?

I've never had to use warmer for mine. But I have fed the goats which are you safe guard but I don't know that that covers lung worms but it does strike me curiousity. I'm going to look into that

OK. According to the safeguard website the goat and cattle dewormer does cover lungworms. It says it's for beef cattle in dairy cattle so you could look on the website and see if it's good for pigs. The website has the dosage information also which is nice

I know for my goats it's given Oralee so hopefully for cattle it is too that way you don't have to have him upset with you again

I didn't read the whole thread, but are you sure he doesn't have pneumonia or another respiratory infection?

I gave him his 3 days worth of Duramycin 72-200, which is supposed to treat pneumonia, the package said give no more than for 3 days. He seems to be feeling better, he's eating and playing but still has a cough. I read that a sign of lungworms is a cough. I'm going to try worming all 3 of the pigs to be sure thats not it. If after that, he still has a cough, I may either talk to my vet or try to find the medicine Rachel Taylor reccomended. Thank you Rachel for looking into the wormers for me, I found the same results as you did. I also read that Diaotamecous Earth also treats worms, so I will also be adding that to their food as well

As I've always been told diatomaceous earth doesn't get rid of worms but does help prevent them but I could be wrong.Apple cider vinegar in the water helps prevent them too. I use both on all my animals. I usually use the diatomaceous earth in their shelters and bedding but I've never tried feeding them it. I hope the Meds do the trick. I know vets for pigs are hard-to-find. Especially when they have to come to your house. I don't know how big your Porkchop is but mine is about 200+ pound and that's too much for me to Tote around anywhere. Best of luck and keep us updated on progress

Hmmm maybe I read the information wrong then, I will have to look into it again. I use it in all my animals besding and nesting boxes and our chickens dust baths. My pigs wont touch water with ACV in it but my chickens looove it. The vet we take our dogs to does farm animals but she charges ALOT for chickens, sheep, goats, and cows. Idk why she doesn't charge as much for pigs, the only thing I can think is they are pretty common these days as pets. We've been going to her for a few years and she usually just gives me as much advice as she can over the phone. My porkchop is only about 45-60lbs, he's not even a year old yet though, probably around 7 months. They roam alot and forage on our 7 acre homestead and I keep their food given to a healthy proportion. Pickles on the other hand is a big girl lol but she also didn't get that way until she became pregnant, she weighs about 90-100lbs and is a year old. I'm not sure how old Sally is, we brought her in about a month ago, I'd say she weighs about 70-90lbs

The last time he went to the vet he was only six lbs. they day after I got him I found he had diarrhea and wouldn't stop shaking and found out he had ecoli and mange at 6 weeks old. Only 50% chance of survival. But the visit and meds all under 100 bucks. Your right maybe it is because they are more common now. I'm guessing pchop's weight. He's a LARGE potbelly. His "buddy" JJ is smaller

Wow!! Its so great that he survived! Sounds like a good vet and a good mom to take care of him. So sad that he had to go through so much being so small. I've heard potbellys can range from pretty small to very very big lol a friend of my husband has a potbelly and she is probably the size of your Porkchop from the way it sounds. Are your pigs fixed or intact?
