Is my Rooster trying to lay an egg?

That was one of the first things I learned about cockbirds.
When I got my first flock (mostly adults) the cockbird spent 30-45 minutes of the first day in a nest talktalktalking away. Later that day, egg in the nest, he never got in a nest again.

My roo loves to show the ladies where the best nesting is, and if I put in some fresh hay, he's all over that.

It doesn't matter if the DE is food grade or not, it;s still a huge respiratory irritant. Best to be used in the garden. I occasionally use a bit in the bottom of a nest box, or UNDER the coop litter, but NEVER dust it on the top.
