Here is Nutmeg, the one in the middle. We were thinking for a long time that it might be a she, but having doubts now. I have a hard time figuring out EE's. About 17 weeks old.

My first thought is roo, but really I'm leaning toward pullet.

I know the red on the wing is a male trait, but that's if it's isolated to the wing bow, in my experience. This birds also looks to have some reddish/salmon on the breast, which with this coloration is a female trait. Nothing else about this bird says male at this age--comb, leg thickness, hackle or saddle feathers. I have a similar colored bird I thought was a cockerel for several months, but realized that reddish color was more even across the body. I'll try to get a pic tomorrow if weather cooperates.

Would sure appreciate updates as the bird ages, and crows or lays.

What really got me looking at it was when my daughters noticed that nutmeg was sparring with another known cockerel. I know pullets will do this too, but this has been quite a few times this particular chicken has gotten into it with other cockerels. That gave me pause and now I'm noticing that tail is looking a bit different than the other EE pullets the same age. The comb has been slower developing and not as red, but it is now noticeably different than the other pullets...we'll see..........

I'm leaning towards cockeral...but could go either way.

The color mostly says roo...but that comb is not much nor is the wattles...but it is more than what my EE girls have at 18 weeks...so I'm still thinking roo.

Yeah, let us know if it crows or lays.
