I recently bought my little flock. I've read several times about putting organic or filtered apple cider vinegar in their water for preventive disease control. Does anyone use just plain apple cider vinegar like I find at the grocery store? I can't seem to find any organic or filtered.

Welcome to BYC!

Yes, you can use the filtered stuff you get from the grocery store. While the organic non filtered stuff has some things in it that do benefit the health, the filtered stuff will work just fine. 1 to 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar per one gallon of water, changed and made new daily. Use plastic waterers only.

Enjoy your flock and welcome to ours!

It doesn't have to be organic but it does need to be raw. It can't be filtered or pasteurized. Those have no health benefits other than being acidic enough to prevent the water from getting slimy.
Pasteurization kills all the beneficial enzymes.

A couple other members have answered your question so I'll just welcome you to the site. @TwoCrows , I was considering giving them ACV once or twice a week. Is it required to give it to them daily? Thought that might be overdoing it. :s

If you are using ACV as a basic tonic and not on a sick bird that might require it every day, no, I wouldn't offer it up every day. If you have never used ACV on them, I like to start with every day for one week and then once a week to keep up the higher PH that you are attempting to raise in the body. I agree, daily is too much. I also use probiotics several times a week as well for good gut and immune systems.

I mixed a half gallon with a tablespoon and they are drinking it like they love it. I also fed them one clove of minced garlic and they ate it all immediately .
