Is red lake earth the same as DE?

Is red lake earth the same as DE? I have a new coop and run and new chicks. How soon do I need to use the red lake earth? What else do I need to prevent mites and lice. My chicks are 12 weeks old how soon do I need to worm?

I'v never heard of red lake earth, DE is white and its shells so fine they are like powder. PM Dawn419 I think that her name (check members index) she sells the stuff and she would know. marrie

The DE I use is the Red Lake Earth. BTW, DE stands for Diatonaceous Earth (it says this on my bag under Red Lake Earth). Just make sure it is FOOD GRADE and not the chemical one that is used in pools. I only use DE to help prevent mites and other parasites along with good cleaning habits in their coop and run.

I ordered the red lake earth from myers hatchery so it is safe for chickens. Mine just came in a clean platic bag so there were no instuctions. Will it prevent lice and mites and worms?
