You can look at it like this,
Most all your pigeon feed's are a "All Grain Mix" and pigeons don't over heat.
Another way you could look at is is a good percentage of a "Game-fowl" feed mix is grain and they don't over heat ether I believe that a lot people get confused when they here that Grain, Scratch or even "Grain Feed" is "Hot".

"Hot" is that it is High in Calories and Carbohydrates and not that it will raise body temperature..

WOW !!! Sorry for that indivual's "hot" answer ! Too much scratch perhaps ....made them OVERHEAT !!!
I too give the chicks scratch...just less in warm weather so they don't get too "chubby" Also I want their food with all the good protein to be eaten...to produce eggs.
