Is sevin dust really safe for chickens? (permethrin and de)

Just FYI, Sevin is now illegal in several different countries, and it is also illegal to sell meat or milk with the residues in it. You may want to look up CARBARYL and be absolutely sure you want to use this on something you may want to eat or gather eggs from.

Neem oil is a great alternative and won't cause cancer or poison your meat. Something to consider ;)

I’ve heard to make applying easier and less messy you can add Vaseline (warm to soften) to powder and place under wings on but and behind the neck I’d imagine this drops the chances of the powder being airborne and having a less likely chance of it causing respiratory issues…. I’d still wear gloves and mask though can never be to safe

We've been using sevin dust since the 60's in our vegetable gardens, on our dogs, and on my chickens for the last 12 years or so. I'm still here typing.
I dont recommend eating sevin dust or any other type of dust neither. Use common sense and wear a mask when dusting, the same is true for DE, poultry dust, etc...
Birds always shake themselves off and go about their business no matter what type of dust you use on them.
Thanks

Welcome to BYC @DonnaDew1 . Sevin dust is no longer approved for chickens, and I found that it did not work on lice a number of years ago when a friend brought me a rare type of rooster. Permethrin garden dust is very good and used for control of lice or mites. Prozap and Garstar brands are sold in feed stores. Permethrin spray is also very good. Elector PSP is a more expensive alternative that many people say works well with fewer applications.
