Took her out of the nest. She ran around like crazy, ate, pooped, and ran back in. I will figure out what I'm going to do tonight.

Sounds like tyipcal broody behavior...always kinda makes me chuckle.Took her out of the nest. She ran around like crazy, ate, pooped, and ran back in. I will figure out what I'm going to do tonight.
It really is funny, especially given that it's Poppy, who is super sassy. To see her running around like a crazy thing.Sounds like tyipcal broody behavior...always kinda makes me chuckle.
You could put a few eggs under her and see if she’ll hatch them.I've got one that has gone broody, I locked her out of the coop earlier, I lost count how many times she came and stood looking at the door to see if it would open lol.
When I did open the coop she went straight back in and on the nest, I moved her countless times, she made the cluck cluck screech every time.
I tried placing her on the roost but all she did was jump down and go on the nest.
I would try the chicks thing but I only have one coop and nowhere to put her and them if I tried it, plus I'm not sure where to even get chicks from I would need to google it, I'm in the UK.
I may have to try and break her I think, but she is stubborn, she might break me lol.
Well, she could hatch right in the coop, tho that can be a PITA...and if you don't have space for more birds, and don't want to deal with the inevitable males...time to get a breaker crate. You've just got to be more stubborn than her.I would try the chicks thing but I only have one coop and nowhere to put her and them if I tried it, plus I'm not sure where to even get chicks from I would need to google it, I'm in the UK.

I have a crate and an isolation pen built into my coop, and I technically have room for more. I just haven't decided yet. I'd like to see if she'll adopt a chick or two - sex-linked or auto sex pullets. I will decide soon. I promise.Well, she could hatch right in the coop, tho that can be a PITA...and if you don't have space for more birds, and don't want to deal with the inevitable males...time to get a breaker crate. I didn’t think of a growing pullet sitting vs a full-grown hen.Video didn't work...
Broody's ARE crazy!
I won't let a still growing pullet sit... they aren't as well prepared as teenagers mentally or physically as they will be as hens... I break ALL pullets and plan an adoption for their NEXT time because it WILL be a repeated performance!
Otherwise... I usually adopt after they sat about two weeks with plenty of success! Less chance of having to deal with roosters and I get to try new breeds in my flock.
Using flock raiser or starter feed for the whole flock is OK. Using layer for chick is NOT. Good luck whatever you decide.![]()
