Is She Broody or Crazy?

Sounds like tyipcal broody behavior...always kinda makes me chuckle.
It really is funny, especially given that it's Poppy, who is super sassy. To see her running around like a crazy thing.

Trying to talk the hubby into picking out a chick or two for her to raise. Poppy is his favorite, but he's kind of a curmudgeon. I go to all his sporting events and concerts with a smile on my face. It'd be nice if he'd show a little interest in things that are important to me every once in a while...

I've got one that has gone broody, I locked her out of the coop earlier, I lost count how many times she came and stood looking at the door to see if it would open lol.
When I did open the coop she went straight back in and on the nest, I moved her countless times, she made the cluck cluck screech every time.
I tried placing her on the roost but all she did was jump down and go on the nest.
I would try the chicks thing but I only have one coop and nowhere to put her and them if I tried it, plus I'm not sure where to even get chicks from I would need to google it, I'm in the UK.
I may have to try and break her I think, but she is stubborn, she might break me lol.

You could put a few eggs under her and see if she’ll hatch them.:wee

Well, she could hatch right in the coop, tho that can be a PITA...and if you don't have space for more birds, and don't want to deal with the inevitable males...time to get a breaker crate. You've just got to be more stubborn than her. :D

I have a crate and an isolation pen built into my coop, and I technically have room for more. I just haven't decided yet. I'd like to see if she'll adopt a chick or two - sex-linked or auto sex pullets. I will decide soon. I promise.

In the meantime, I will keep taking her off the nest in the afternoons so she can run around like a crazy and get a little food and water and whatnot.

My broody is onto week 9 and at week 4 I bought chicks which were almost a week old to put under her, but instead of adopting, she pecked them all mercilessly until I removed the poor battered babies...was ugly, Not sure the secret, but I will never do that again!!

Video didn't work...

Broody's ARE crazy! :barnie

I won't let a still growing pullet sit... they aren't as well prepared as teenagers mentally or physically as they will be as hens... I break ALL pullets and plan an adoption for their NEXT time because it WILL be a repeated performance! ;)

Otherwise... I usually adopt after they sat about two weeks with plenty of success! Less chance of having to deal with roosters and I get to try new breeds in my flock. :love

Using flock raiser or starter feed for the whole flock is OK. Using layer for chick is NOT. Good luck whatever you decide. :fl
I didn’t think of a growing pullet sitting vs a full-grown hen.
