They are pretty broody. So are cochins. I have a silkie rooster and won't sit on eggs but I am pretty sure that if he knew how he would! He loves to raise chicks and even takes on my orphans for me!
Awee cuute! I am hoping my Silkie Rooster stays friendly and easily catchable unlike my RIR Rooster. Who likes to attack people which I am not sure what to do to make him stop.. don't want to get rid of him 'cause I raised him so I got a bond over em, and he takes good care of the girls
I hear a lot of that with the RIR's. He fights you to show you who's boss. I actually kick at mine(not hard though) to show him who's really boss! If you dont want to kick him you could try throwing a box over him whenever he comes after you!
He goes after my nieces and scares the heck out of them Fred the RIR "Wing Slaps" them, they come in screaming that Fred Wing Slapped them, we've tried to not let the kids run but they still run around and I think that provokes Fred, he attacked my mom yesterday got her pretty good, I have thought of using the water hose and give him a good spray but then he likes the rain, but I will use the box idea if I can find one! I really need to find a dog cage so when the kids are around and he trys to attack I can toss him into jail after heck catching him. I really hope Geronimo the Silkie won't turn out like him, but it is very cute when he crows. hes about 7 months old now. Fred crows then you hear a small after crow it cracks me up lol. I read somewhere that you could dunk the rooster in water, but I don't like that method. And it's about to be time to cut his spurs for the first time.
Geronimo is a really cute name. Mine is named Gorilla-that's him in my profile pic. A hose is a good idea and it would probably be funny! I need to clip my little bantam roosters spurs too!
Hes very pretty. I need to get a new picture of Geronimo lol! and I'm scared to do the spurs plus don't know how, and my dad's always working so I'll google it! I was just reading a page on here about dealing with rooster's I am guessing I have to catch him everytime he shows aggression to anyone, to show I'm alpha and alpha says no. and to lock him up also. I held him under my arm while he was on his back, and I tell you what being kicked by a roo' doesn't feel to good lol!
No it doesn't ! Someone told me the other day that you could just snap them off with a pair of pliers! Okay I have got to ask and please don't think I am weird but I just keep getting the feeling that we are around the same age. I am 18 how old are you? Sorry I keep pausing between posts. Right in the middle of a thunderstorm!
Twisting it sounds like it would work better! I havn't tried it yet. Maybe I will tomorrow! Yeah this was looking like a potentially rough storm but is finally starting to cool off! That's cool, I thought we sounded similar!
