I went out no more than 5 minutes ago to the coop to collect eggs. In the last nest box there was an egg that was smooshed. I know that a little egg has been being layed in there and sometimes two or three more. Based on the shell color I think it is the little one though. The problem is there was only the top portion of the egg and a couple of little pieces left and no yolk. A little liquid, like the albumen, had seeped through the litter to the bottom of the nest box. I cleaned it all out but am ow worried that it will happen again.
I have had this happen before one time but the whole egg was there including the yolk. It was just a mixed mess. This no yolk and shell really bothers me. Now that I think about things, I had given them oyster shell the other day and they ate it over a course of days but it had almost ran out and I haven't filled it back up. There eggs have always been super hard. I have only had one soft egg before and it never seemed to be a problem with them. Could this be a factor or am I just jumping at things?
I have always been so happy that I didn't have this problem. Maybe I spoke too soon.
I really can't have a egg eater as I am not home in the middle of the day most days. I wouldn't be able to collect the eggs right away or sit and watch exactly who is doing it so am I just panicking or have just concerns?
ANY info would be great. Thanks.
