I will just share this, my birds are a 7 months old now and weight 6 lbs. The male is actually larger than what he should be at 9 lbs. He is the same age. For being a winter baby he grew bigger than I thought he would..

some mature fast that others i just know my experence with chickens after the first egg they gain some weight and mine just turned 6 months so they still have a month and the show is in the fall so they have about 2 and a half months i think im still gonna show em they may not win but hey they are still my babie and they are beautiful and like i said they are almost 4 pounds im proud of what ive raised and thanks all for the critiques

I dont want to sound mean but if you are going to show in 4-H or FFA I dont think your going to have as much experence with chickens as some of the people on here that is trying to help you on here.

I think that you are the first person that I herd say that a hen will jump in weight after laying the first egg..

Thank you Chris. I have to agree, my birds get their growth done before they lay their eggs.

It's may just be me, but I prefer growth before production.

Your girls comb is well over the five points, that they look for, has that wavy and a depression and may lay over even as she grows. In comb alone - those things are not show quality. Rodriguez gave you good pictures for the reference between show barring and production/hatchery barring. She is smallish for a large fowl. As you sort your growing out babies - sort for cleaner barring, bigger birds and straight, closer to five point comes and you'll be started in the right direction.

While she's no where near old enough for a permanent consideration of her tail set and feather, both are also going to have to see improvement in the next generation.

Crohio plymouth rocks does have a copy of the 1915 Plymouth Rock Standard for all colors. It hasn't changed all that much over the years.

You can also buy the APA breed standards in black and white for 14.00 on their site. Don't bother buying the color one this year - there's a new addition supposedly out this Fall, so if in color - wait til the new one comes out. It's worth having. Though color runs a good bit more.
