Is she sick or just mad?

Is anyone out there? So I turned my chicken upside down and massaged her huge swollen crop and she suddenly ejected an enormous quantity of the most foul-smelling, greenish-grey liquid you can imagine, all over me. Then, after I decided I WAS NOT going to vomit, I massaged her some more and pulled out a lot of slimy hay from her throat, then some other stuff came out and a lot more liquid. So I guess maybe she had an impaction from hay and also sour crop? Now she is in her dog crate making awful croaking noises. What should I do now? Thought I would give her some warm oatmeal with yogurt and AVC in her water. Should I (please no) do the crop massaging thing again? At what point should I consider doing the chicken surgery I have been reading about?
I bet she has improved by now, right? I hope so!! I'm glad to hear it was sour crop-- not something more serious (although it is disgusting to experience the crop puke)
every chicken is different, but sounds like youre taking great care of her. Id love to see a pic!
Keep her on the ACV water for a little bit, it won't hurt her, only help her digestion. If you look up Braggs ACV, It's kind of one of those miracle tonics.

Well, I dont know if she is all better yet but I think she will live, at any rate. I had to do the nasty crop milking thing again and I got quite a bit more hay out this time. I gave her some good AVC with the Mother in her water, and some yogurt that she slurped down. But she is still pretty sick....Thanks for your interest and help. I could send a photo but honestly she is just a normal looking white/grey EE I got down at the feed store. Now, I do have some lovely birds, especially my partridge cochin, but you know, the sick one is my favorite of all my hens. Her name is Joan Jett and she is really my pet. I love her even though she does not give me nearly as many eggs as my Buff Orpington or my Wyandotte, or even the Brahmas, and she gets all broody and hides her eggs to boot...It would be really sad to lose her.

Help Again! Now my hen is eating ferociously but again has a giant swollen crop and terrible green diarrhea. She just stands around eating and pooping and acting hungry and droopy at the same time and moving very very slowly. By the time she gets over to where the rest of the girls are they have moved on.... what should I do now? I really don't want to take her to the vet, I live in Montana and the vets around here can be pretty merciless to people who take their chickens to the doctor.....I can only imagine what my vet ( horses & dogs) might say....

I don't know if this would help you or not but I just finished reading a long thread on impacted crops. You should read it and judge for yourself. It is called 'Crop Surgery Performed - More pics & How To Steps posted - Pg 10'. It was under the same area emergencies etc. I learned a ton reading it. Just a thought.....

Good luck with your girl. I know how special they can get.

oh,geez,
I thought I had avoided that. I don't think it is impacted, just a really nasty case of sour crop...
