is shipping always so much?

I wanted to order we chicks from Meyer hatchery in Ohio since their so close to me. But shipping 4 chicks ( 3 females 1 male) is over 30.00 for 12.00 worth of chicks. Is this normal? Or am I just cheap?

It's that much because they ship them express instead of priority.

Yes, thats normal. If you're local you can also pick them up from the hatchery - for us it wasn't worth it, but if you're closer it might be.

Their about 4 hours away from me. With gas over 4 dollars a gallon I'm thinking that shipping would be cheaper. Can they ship priority mail?
