Is the egg fertile?

My pigeons recently layed two eggs, one which broke. The other one seems to have a white crack on it. It’s been three days since I found them. Should there be development by now? I can post candling pictures later on if you want. I’ve just been really excited for baby pigeons and I really want it to hatch :fl.

You should see some development. If you dont, I would replace with a fake egg. But wait 2 more days to make sure.

Often times pigeons first clutch is infertile. Hopefully this isn't the case though. If it is cracked, it probably won't hatch.

If it were me, I would replace the egg, (if it isn't fertile) with a plastic one, and wait a week and then pull it out. After that, you should get another clutch that should be fertile.

Best of luck! I hope this helps!

Im still really hesitant to mess with it, but I’ll take your advice and give it a few days. I don’t have any specific fake eggs, what else can I use?
do you have a large white marble? It's a white ball? Anything white and the size of a pigeon egg. If you have nothing, it will be okay... Its best to give the hen a couple week break for her to regain calcium. But not crucial.

you may be able to fool them by giving them a golf ball even. Just see what works. paint a round rack white, etc. don't go out and buy anything if you don't have to!

I candled the egg today, no development 😕. So I took it out and broke it open, and there was nothing but yolk. I think the air cell membrane was punctured and egg white got in, because the air cell was filled with fluid. I have a Ping Pong ball replacement in there now.
I'm sorry. :( hopefully they will lay another clutch soon!
