Thank You All for your responses.

It appears I will not be able to get either one, as they are far and few of either here on Long Island (chicks or adult hens) at least that I can see, and even the hatcheries are not shipping chicks until June/July. (There seems to be a "CHICKEN BOOM") I also have a limit of 8 hens in my town(and I have 4 already), so they will not sell 4 to me anyway. The winters are fairly cold and I don't want to start with chicks too late in the season. I can always try again next spring and then try to intergrate them.

Well now your not to far from some folks. Either people in NY or Mass. etc. etc. Plus you might find someone coming your way this summer who wouldn't mind dropping off some birds. Or might trade a night in the local Econo lodge or nearest one in exchange for the trip down. I have no plans mind you. I just throw that out there as an idea or excuse to take a three day trip.

I've personally taken a three day trip to Newport, RI and Boston. Had a great time and it was enough to defuse.

Heck I just drove to Stewart AFB in a day and have had trips to NJ and MD. So meeting someone to make the exchange can't be that bad. Mini vacations can be a good thing. Anyhow it's just a thought. Come spring I'll be throwing that out there.

Ameraucana ~ someone wrote on this board don't breed true meaning you could have Ameraucana parents and the offspring not grow up to meet APA standard. We sold our trio and started over because of this very reason. The trio we have now is good but one of the hens egg color is off so she would not met APA standard

I have true ameraucanas in my incubator I was given to hatch and resell from friends. I do vent sex my chicks at hatching. I have one person who wants 1-2 hens to add some color to his flock if I have any other pullets hatched though I'd be happy to send some your way dunno where you are exactly but just thought i'd offer

They are hatching here on the 11th

Colors not sure, blues is one possible color I do know that much

That is so nice of you. How much are you selling them for? What area are you in? I am not sure what the shipping would be I live in the 11731 area code.

Having been a long time moderator on other boards I can tell you that sometimes you just get tired of answering the same question over and over. You just wish the search function was utilized more often.

That being said, being a newbie, I have enjoyed the latest ameraucana/ee conversations, as it's not something I'm interested enough in to search. But interested enough to stumble over a current thread and see what is being said.

Chicks are always $2 each from me (unless I pay a heap to buy them). PM me if you're interested and I'll quote for ya

So as you have read, I have been interested in adding a couple of more chicks to my small backyard flock. They are about 7 weeks old now. But I have not been able to find anyone around here who has them, I have found someone that has chicks around the same age as mine and they are the breed I was looking for. I realize that I will have to get the birds aquainted, however, I am just as concerned about their health. Is there anyway to judge the health of these new birds? Should I ask this person (whom I do not know) any specific questions without insulting him? I have to let him know if I definetly want these birds. They are (so I am told) Ameraucanas. They do not have to be perfect since I am not interested in showing or breeding, just enjoying the birds for what they are. With that said, I would still like to be sure that they are indeed Ameraucanas. Is there anything specific I should be looking for? I see people on BYC trading, buying and giving all the time. So is it a good idea?

Thank You all for your input....
